PHI002 - Teaching English

Duration: Min 2 weeks, Max 4 months
Dates: Available all year round
Location: Tacloban City
Project Tasks: Volunteers assisting with running the English classes at rural primary schools or informal schools for street children and unemployed adults.
Who Can Participate?: IVP. Teaching experience or a TEFL certificate is appreciated, but not mandatory.
All volunteers wanting to participate in this placement are required to submit a police report which clears them for participation in activities with minors.
Optional Activities: Two organized excursions are included in the cost of these placements and will be planned on days off for the volunteers. Places that may be visited include the Santo Niño Shrine and Heritage Center, the palatial residence and guest house of Imelda Marcos and MacArthur Park in Palo. Other weekend excursions may include visiting local cultural parades and fiestas, a trip to a rural village, a visit to a nearby beach resort and visits to other scenic areas in the region.
Volunteers will end their time in the Philippines with a farewell dinner, consisting of traditional Filipino dishes prepared by the host family. This is often one of the highlights of the volunteer's time in the Philippines because it can be an endless night of eating, singing, and cultural dancing!
Placement Costs: US$350 for 2 weeks, US$ 475 for 1 month, US$675 for 2 months.
Meals: Breakfast and Dinner is provided but volunteers will need to buy their own lunch, which costs about 50 – 70 pesos.
Accommodation: Provided by a host family.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.

IVP = Placements for individual volunteers with no special experience or training.
SIVP = Placements for volunteers with related experience, expertise or proven interest
