TZI005- HIV/AIDS prevention

Project Aims: Creating HIV/AIDS awareness through education and communication to facilitate behavior change as well as addressing the preventative aspects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Training of HIV/AIDS educators in the rural areas of Moshi, and counseling of the infected and affected in view of offering assistance to those in need, especially women, the youth, orphaned, and grandmothers, who are left in charge of the orphans. Proclaiming that there is need for transformation of traditional cultural practices and beliefs in order to reduce the rate of HIV/AIDS infection and its rapid spread.
Project Tasks: Volunteers will assist in the 4 core areas of the program - care, support, prevention, peer education . The program involves video presentations to schools, Community Based groups and Faith based groups by a group of local staff and the volunteers. It also involves face-to-face counseling of the infected persons and follow up counseling to the affected families, voluntary counseling and testing. This involves taking the clients to Government hospitals since we don’t have the facilities necessary for these services.
Who Can Participate?: Anyone with a knowledge of HIV/AIDS and the surrounding issues of the disease
Placement Costs: US$125 per week covers all food, accommodation, airport/bus station transfer, project donation and local administration fee.
Accommodation: Accommodation is either provided with a host family or in the volunteer house with other volunteers.
