TZI004- Education in local schools

Duration: Min 4 weeks, Max 6 months
Dates: The semesters are divided into two. The first semester goes from January to June with a short one week holiday called mid-term around Easter in April. The long holiday comes in June. The second semester starts from July to December and one week holiday in October. Volunteers can only be placed in the schools during school terms
Location: Mt Kilimanjaro Area
Project Aims: Volunteers are needed to assist at many schools in the area. These schools are very poor and cater for orphans, partial orphans and local underprivilaged children.
Project Tasks: Volunteers will assist with teaching English, sports (especially swimming), any other subjects that a volunteer can teach, sign language etc.
Volunteers will also assist with home visits for children in the area and counselling and administration for the schools.
Placement Costs: US$125 per week covers all food, accommodation, airport/bus station transfer, project donation and local administration fee.
Accommodation: Accommodation is either provided with a host family or in the volunteer house with other volunteers.
Hours of Activity: The schools generally run from 8am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday.
