GTI003 - Community Education
Duration: Min 4 weeks, Max. 12 weeks.
Location: Guatemala
Background Information: It is a small non-for profit organization located in San Andres, Peten, in northern Guatemala.
Project Aims: Protect and manage a 150 acre reserve in San Andres, provide environmental education to all the schools in San Andres, to aid and assist small community organizations, schools, and families in San Andres, and to provide quality volunteer opportunities for travelers and students.
Project Tasks: Volunteers teach English and other subjects at local schools, assisting with adult literacy and education programs, environmental education and assisting in the local library.
Placement Costs: Food and accommodation provided for a contribution of US$350 for the first month, and US$300 per month after the initial month This monetary contribution also provides the materials for the projects.
Hours of Activity: Mornings are usually assigned for work and afternoons have scheduled cultural, school, and other various activities. Saturdays are reserved for field trips, and Sundays are a traditional day off.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
Required Items: Spanish not compulsory but Volunteers can take private lessons for approx. US$5 per hour.
