Background Information: A very significant organisation with many full time employees, runs 15 Homes across the country to provide live in facilities for disabled people who are without family support.
Project Tasks: Volunteers will assist the staff in providing personal care and assistance for wheelchair users, sport and the practice needed for Special Olympics competition, as well as general leisure activities or occupational development.
The Home's staff also need help with housekeeping and cooking, office work and administration; so that there are all sorts of opportunities for volunteers with various interests.
Who Can Participate?: All Volunteers are welcome, but volunteers with specialist expertise such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, hospitality, sporting, business or leisure experience are also needed.
Placement Costs: food and accommodation with a host family are provided
Hours of Activity: Monday to Friday
Language: English, although knowledge of some German would be appreciated
Note: In winter months, Ideal Snow skiing possibilities are available so that volunteers who are interested in assisting disadvantaged people in their communities 'at home' and who have a personal interest in snow skiing are especially invited to apply to volunteer during the winter. Arrangements can be made for 'time off' to be taken to enjoy snow skiing in the World famous ski fields of Innsbruck. The summer months with Austria's famous festivals will appeal to many other IVvolunteers. The success of the organisation's efforts can be learnt and taken home to be shared with organisations in other countries by interested volunteers of all ages. Ideas and experiences may be brought and shared with this organisation that is keen to learn from others as has already happened through placements in New Zealand and Australia.
