THI007 - Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation.
Duration: Minimum is three weeks & maximum is six months.
Location: Ranong.
Background Information: The organisation works with all wild animals including bears, elephants, gibbons and macaques; and occasionally assists with exotic wildlife rescued from smugglers. One rehabilitation project currently houses over seventy animals.
Arrival Airport: Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok
Project Aims: The aim of this centre is the rehabilitation and long-term care of these animals most have which have suffered abuse at the hands of humans as well as to provide a sustainable program with lasting impact, by means of an education program in wildlife and conservation.
Project Tasks: - Assist with food preparation
- Cleaning of cages
- General animal welfare
- Data collection and education programs.
Development of the site is ongoing and volunteers are required to become involved in whatever stage of the project is being progressed during their stay
Who Can Participate?: IVP. Must be over 18 years of age and in good physically fit. Basic command of English spoken is essential needed and good teamwork skill.
Placement Costs: Accommodation and food, plus a donation, costs either US$ 918 for the first 3 weeks + US$ 92 per week for each additional week
OR
US$ 825 for the first 8 weeks. All on-site transportation, orientation, supervision and training are provided in the above cost.
Meals: Food is not provided and can easily be purchased at the local market.
Accommodation: A good local style hut with toilet will be provided (2 people share a room) plus shelf, fan, mosquito net, pillow and bed sheet. Microwave and refrigerator are available and satellite TV are provided at the main area.
Transportation: About an hour from main town by local bus and another 6 kms from main road.
Hours of Activity: Six-day week usually for 8 hours per day.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas. IVI can assist your with visa applications for Thailand.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
