THI006 - Sea Turtles

Duration: Minimum 2 weeks and the maximum is 16 weeks
Location: Baan Talae Nork.
Arrival Airport: Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok
Project Aims: To assist Sea Turtles to naturally come ashore, nest and return to the sea safely while recording their numbers and marking the nesting sites.
To protect these sites from poachers (humans or preditors seeking the eggs), while they naturally incubate and ensure the safe transit of the incubated young ones to the sea to ensure maximum survival.
Project Tasks: - Assist with beach surveys, habitat assessment, educational activity, rehabilitation work and environmental cleaning.
- When not working on turtles, volunteers help with the general daily operations in the Wildlife Sanctuary nearby that involves:- Prevention of cruelty to wild animals; rescuing wild animals; training wildlife; promoting conservation and the balance of life; and educating children to responsibilities in conservation and preservation.
Who Can Participate?: IVP. Volunteers must be over 18 years of age and physically fit.
Placement Costs: Food and accommodation is provided for US$ 20 per day (US$ 140 per week). All on-site transportation, orientation, supervision and training are provided in the above cost.
Accommodation: A good local style hut will be provided (2 people share a room) plus shelf, fan, mosquito net, pillow and bed sheet. There is a Western style toilet and also satellite tv.
Transportation: Volunteers are able to catch the bus from Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal. The fares will be around 500 to 100 baht.
Hours of Activity: Volunteer a six-day week usually for 8 hours per day.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas. IVI can assist your with visa applications for Thailand.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
Note: Placement available in December to March only.
