INI004 - Women's Rural development
Duration: Min 4 weeks, Max 4 months
Dates: Available all year round.
Location: Pune, near Mumbai
Project Aims: This organisation aims to assist rural women in many areas. Past achievements include: More than 500 women have been trained in backyard poultry farming; dairying and 150 have been provided with small loans to buy milch animals. 140 women have built toilets near their houses and actually use them. The organisation monitors conditions in schools and tries to improve them where possible; it has given bicycles to girls who attend highschool from distant villages; It holds regular camps in adolescent health and has a library for rural youth.
Project Tasks: Women 's and children's empowerment projects; Education of children (teaching and planning classes); Public Health education. Farming: Assessing needs of farmers for improving yields and suggesting post harvest technologies.
Placement Costs: Accommodation and Food provided in the house for 1 000 Indian Rupees (approx. AU$30) per week.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
