INI022 - Boarding school for Disabled and Abandoned Children
Duration: Min 4 weeks, Max 2 months
Location: Chennai.
Background Information: The organisation was established to aid the education and development of both mentally and physically disabled children who have been abandoned. There is approximately 45 children at the home, and because of demand, numbers are increasing.
Arrival Airport: Chennai International Airport.
Project Aims: The ultimate goal of this home is to give these children the opportunity to attend university and to increase social understanding of disabilities. At present, they are also trying to raise money for a boys only orphanage and adoption centre.
Project Tasks: To assist the staff in teaching and helping around the home - much help is needed! Extra-curricular activities and therapy involve dance lessons, excursions to the zoo, movies and the beach.
Who Can Participate?: IVP, SIVP. Volunteers should have an interest in children and a positive attitude.
Meals: Provided by the home.
Accommodation: Organised by the home.
Visa Requirements: Volunteers will be assisted to obtain visas where required
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
