Project Aims: The organisation works with children aged between 5 to 17 yrs, having a range of both mental and physical disabilities. Some are unable to communicate verbally whilst others are unable to walk.
Project Tasks: Volunteers have to program options:
i) Waking the children at 0530, helping to wash, clothe and take them to the toilet. After breakfast, washing them again and oiling their hair etc. in preparation for school. Work in the school from 1000 to 1230 with a break of about 10 minutes at about 1100 whilst the children say their prayers. After this the day is free.
(ii) Alternatively work in the school from 0930 to 1230 and 1400 to 1600, Monday to Saturday. Work in the school involves individually playing with a child. All the children are extremely friendly towards the volunteers.
Who Can Participate?: IVP.Anyone with an interest in children
Placement Costs: You will be asked for a minimum donation of US$50 for food and accommodation per month.
Accommodation: Volunteers are housed in the organisations complex which has all mod cons, a microwave, fridge and cooker and western toilets! All the water is filtered.
Hours of Activity: Volunteers will have one full weekend off a month, and can speak to the sisters as to places of interest to visit.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
