TLI001 - Medical/Social Service

Duration: 12 weeks +
Location: Tibar, 15 kilometres west of Dili.
Project Aims: The aim of the project is to provide care and support of low dependency patients referred from Hospital National Guido Valadares (formerly Dili General Hospital), and other clinics, and the provision of a permanent home for a small group of residents who are elderly or who have a disability.
Project Tasks: Volunteers assist by supporting the staff in their roles, providing further skills training, technical support, undertaking specific projects and helping with general everyday activities.
Some volunteers will have specialised skills that are particularly needed at Klibur Domin, and will be able to work mainly in their own area of expertise eg professional health care, or building maintenance. Others may have more general skills that can be applied across a range of activities. All volunteers regardless of expertise share in some of the general workload, and at times sudden demands require everyone to pitch in. Flexibility in this regard is essential.
Tasks: Medical Volunteers will assist with-in their specialist field.

Other Volunteers:
-Supporting staff in their areas of responsibility and providing additional skills training -Organising, leading, or assisting with recreational and creative activities with patients of all ages. New ideas are very welcome. -Accompanying groups on walks, or outings to the beach for a swim -Administrative tasks and computing -Maintenance of the buildings and grounds -Teaching specific skills such as - English, driving, sewing, computer use, or health education -Gardening and vegetable production, developing sustainable horticultural practices, and poultry management -Assisting with stocktake -Driving patients to and from the Hospital National and other clinics.
Who Can Participate?: Business/Admin and medical volunteers are especially welcome. We would encourage anyone who is interested in this placement to apply.
Meals: Basic food is provided to all volunteers, though you may have to pay for some ‘luxury’ food items.
Accommodation: Accommodation is provided at the home at no cost to volunteers.
Note: Parents with children are also welcome, depending on age and number of children.
