Location: Lome
Background Information: Humanitarian work involving supporting and following groups of vulnerable people living in unfavorable situations within the community, such as people living with HIV/AIDS, uneducated, street children, young apprentices, and any other persons in distress. We hope to be a source of comfort and to help to those who are finding it hard to cope on their own. We offer assistance, both moral and financial to many different types of problems; the most common are:
-helping to pay medical fees, school fees.
-helping to sort out family conflicts by offering counseling and sound advice.
-providing support and education on matters such as STIs especially HIV/AIDS.
-placing children into suitable educational programs.
-linking our beneficiaries to other specialized organizations (medical, educational and work related).
-providing business help and information to those looking to start up their own businesses.
-organising events and workshops for children and adults in the domains of health and education.
Project Aims: To improve the quality of life, in a significant and permanent way of those coming to us for help. To give support to those in need and to help create a better future for them, this is why we like to focus especially on helping children (educating them on health and lifestyle choices as well as helping them to self-help themselves by providing them with education which will eventually lead to respectable jobs.
Project Tasks: -routine house visits to establish family situation and better discover problems and concerns that are disclosed to us.
-hospital visits to check on patients we are assisting.
- school visits, to establish a relationship between our organisation and local schools, for example negotiating tuition fees and getting them reduced for families in financial difficulties.
-listening to, offering advice and finding solutions for people coming to the center seeking our assistance.
-some basic office administration work.
-Many other current projects that will be running at the time of arrival.
Who Can Participate?: Anyone can assist, but volunteers must have a basic knowledge of French, or be willing to take lessons on arrival to the organisation.
Placement Costs: Contribution of 30 Euros per week for accommodation and local food. Volunteers are more than welcome to purchase any extra food they may require. An administration fee of 150 Euros is also payable on arrival.
Accommodation: Provided with a host family in a private home. Volunteers may also have the option to stay with other international volunteers for their stay.
Transportation: Local Transport will cost about 10 Euros per week.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
Language: French lessons can be provided on arrival for 5 Euros per hour
