TGI001 - HIV/AIDS assistance
Duration: Minimum 2 weeks, Max 6 months

Location: Lome
Project Aims: To prevent AIDS and to provide care and support for those in the community who are effected. This is done through social and professional care with economic assistance. Prevention is conducted through an AIDS Cares program while Education for children is provided at schools.
Project Tasks: - Volunteers will visit people with AIDS or who are HIV positive in the area;
- Prepare food packages and visit the orphans whom we are supporting at school.
- Volunteers are also needed to help raise public awareness and knowledge about AIDS in the area.
Who Can Participate?: IVP/SIVP. All volunteers wanting to participate in this placement are required to submit a police report which clears them for participation in activities with minors.
Placement Costs: Contribution of 30 Euros per week for food and accommodation. There is also a once-off supporters fee of 150 Euros to be paid on arrival in Lome.
Accommodation: Provided with a host family in a private home. Volunteers may also have the option to stay with other international volunteers for their stay.
Transportation: Local Transport will cost about 10 Euros per week.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
Note: Some knowledge of French is advisable, however French lessons are available.
Learn French from a trained Teacher who will 'work' with the volunteer, costs approx. 4 Euros per hour.
