ZAI010 - Nurses needed
Duration: 3 months +
Location: Northern KwaZulu Natal. (near Swaziland)
Arrival Airport: Johannesburg International Airport.
Project Aims: To ensure that orphans grow up as responsible members of society and that the ill die with dignity. There is a high HIV/AIDS rate in this area, and consequently a high number of orphan headed households. This organisation aims to help the orphans and the elderly in all ways of life.
Project Tasks: Volunteers will assist with South African and foregin volunteer nurses to provide emotional support, treat members of the community, dispense medications and nursing supplies. Most of your week will be spent assisting with field visits to the elderly, ill and children that are not able to travel for treatment.
Who Can Participate?: SIVP. Registered Nurses and nurses in the final year of study are needed.
Meals: Basic food is provided by the hosts; you may need a little money to buy some extra food.
Accommodation: A private flat will be provided in a complex with other foreign volunteers and local staff
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
Note: You need to be emotionally strong enough to deal with work of this nature. Volunteers should also obtain an international drivers licence if possible.
