Duration: 4 weeks +
Location: Worcester.
Background Information: The Township was virtually destroyed by gang warfare in the 1980's. The area became deeply impoverished due to the lack of education, proper health care and social upliftment, which stemmed from the gang and turf warfare. Peace is has now been present for many years and this organisation was established to reconnect people and implement basic social support structures for the community.
Arrival Airport: Cape Town International
Project Tasks: - Youth activities such as: skills training, counselling and mentoring, sports and recreation, youth at risk projects (Girls home), and basic activities such as helping with homework.
- Needlework with local women,
- Drama and arts and crafts classes.
- Mother and daughter camps.
- public health programs
- Business ventures,
- Helping in the pre-school
- Development of tourism,
- Recycling & organic gardening projects.
- Ground and building maintenance.
Who Can Participate?: IVP & SIVP.
Placement Costs: R250.00 (about US$40) per week for accommodation and food costs.
Meals: One cooked main meal every day, prepare all other meals, food provided.
Accommodation: Volunteers are accommodated in a very comfortable flats. The flats are fully contained with cooking equipment, T.V., washing machine etc.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
Note: No smoking, alcohol or drug abuse is permitted on the premises.
