ZAI009 - Community Development in a Township
Duration: Min 2 weeks, Max. 3 months.
Location: Diepsloot Township, Johannesburg.
Arrival Airport: Johannesburg International Airport.
Project Tasks: - Tasks range from collecting and distributing food to the needy;
- Assisting with community development programs such as computer literacy programs, music classes for children.
- Income generating activities such as arts and crafts making, selling and training with women in the community.
- Volunteers will also have the opportunity to assist with the organisational development and teach in a township kindergarten.
Who Can Participate?: IVP/SIVP enthusiastic volunteers.
Placement Costs: Food and accommodation provided outside of the township in a safe area for 280 Rand (approx. AU$60 per week) with the director of the organisation and her teenage daughter.
Transportation: Volunteers must pay for their own transportation most days.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
Note: All volunteers wanting to participate in this placement are required to submit a police report which clears them for participation in activities with minors.
