KEI017 - Sustainable Farming
Duration: Min 2 weeks, max 52 weeks.
Location: 65km from Nairobi.
Background Information: Family farm that runs dairy cattle, goats and rabbits with poultry for layers and broiler production as well as a small scale vegetable area. Partly used as an education resource for the local people on such subjects as sustainable development and the development of sustainable farming through techniques such as generating bio-gas, yogurt making and generally increased sustainable productivity through vegetable production.
Arrival Airport: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Project Tasks: Help around the farm, and with the education projects.
Who Can Participate?: IVP/SIVP.
Optional Activities: 15 minutes from a reasonable sized township that offers Internet facilities and leisure activities such as swimming. Afternoons can be spent with local school children playing sport etc.
Placement Costs: Food and accommodation provided with a host family for 4900 Kenyan Shillings per week (approximately US$70 per week).

Accommodation: On the farm living with a Kenyan host family - 2 older parents, and three younger children
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas. Assistance and advice can be provided where necessary.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
