CMI010 - Educating on conservation friendly livelihoods

Location: Buea and nearby rural areas
Project Aims: The mission of this organisation is to empower people in natural resource-dependent communities to adopt conservation-friendly livelihoods improvement strategies. They work with target communities to promote the conservation, wise management and rational use of land, forest and aquatic resources.
Project Tasks: Volunteers will be assisting with the following tasks:
• Carry out biodiversity surveys on forest and aquatic resource bases.
• Conduct community needs assessments.
• Promote income generation through sustainable agriculture and non-conventional livestock production (snails, cane rat domestication).
• Promote community health through training/sensitization in hygiene and sanitation.
• Promote food security through post harvest management and market penetration.
• Promote gender equality through reproductive rights awareness-raising, mainstreaming and advocacy.
Meals: Volunteers will need to purchase and cook their own meals. US$50 per week should be estimated for this (some local and international foods)
Accommodation: Accommodation will vary. Whilst in Buea, volunteers will, generally stay in one bedroom units. Whilst in rural areas, volunteers will stay with a mix of host families, and with local workers. Accommodation costs US$50 per month.
