KEI010 - Teaching hands on skills at a college
Duration: Min 4 weeks, max 26 weeks.
Dates: This placement is not available during the school holidays - April, August and December.
Location: Thika, just outside of Nairobi
Arrival Airport: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Project Aims:
- To reduce high rate of child labor which is high within the community by training young people to be self-reliant.
- To enhance industrialization and quality products and services.
- To absorb young people who drop out of school due to lack of school fees in the polytechnic and teach them helpful skills which will make them independent.
Project Tasks: Training of youths in:
Garment making
Hairdressing
Carpentry and joinery
Motor vehicle mechanics
Leather craft
Metal fabrication
Information technology
General studies
Who Can Participate?: IVP/SIVP.
Placement Costs: Food and accommodation provided with a host family for 4900 Kenyan Shillings per week (approximately US$70 per week).

Accommodation: Volunteers will stay with our Kenyan associate's parents in their spacious house in Thika
Hours of Activity: Monday to Friday, with weekends free.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas. Assistance and advice can be provided where necessary.
