KEI020 - Teaching in a slum orphanage
Duration: Min 4 weeks, max 26 weeks.
Location: Nairobi.
Arrival Airport: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Project Aims: To give these disadvantaged children a chance to break the cycle of poverty by providing education within a caring environment.
Project Tasks: - Teach standard classes at the local school; implement and run more creative lessons such as drama, art.
- Organise sporting activities.
- look after the orphans in their everyday activities such as assisting with homework, helping prepare meals, play games etc.
Who Can Participate?: IVP/SIVP. All volunteers wanting to participate in this placement are required to submit a police report which clears them for participation in activities with minors.
Placement Costs: Food and accommodation provided with a host family for 4900 Kenyan Shillings per week (approximately US$70 per week).

Accommodation: Volunteers will stay with our Kenyan associate and her family in a safe and secure neighbourhood outside of the slum area.
Hours of Activity: Monday to friday, 9am to 4pm, but these hours are flexible
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas. Assistance and advice can be provided where necessary.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
