FJI004 - Childrens Ward
Duration: 4 weeks +
Location: Lautoka.
Background Information: Assist a non-government organisation that works within the Lautoka Hospital and with children in the surrounding areas.
Arrival Airport: Nadi International Airport.
Project Tasks: Volunteers are required to keep children entertained after the doctors rounds in the mornings. Play games with them, read to them, help them with schoolwork, draw with them, make things ... the opportunities are as long as your imagination. In the afternoon, volunteers can either help with admin tasks in the organisations' office or at a local kindergarten that looks after children from low-income families.
Who Can Participate?: IVP/SIVP.Prior experience with children is a necessity and Volunteers must be over 20 years of age.
All volunteers wanting to participate in this placement are required to submit a police report which clears them for participation in activities with minors.
Placement Costs: AU$75 per week for food and accommodation with a local family in Lautoka.
Accommodation: Stay with a family in a western style house (with running water but no electricity) and join in their daily life, and that of the village.
Hours of Activity: Volunteers assist with the children in the mornings and are free to take on other volunteering tasks for the organisation in the afternoon.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
