FJI002 - Orphanage

Background Information: In 2001, the home was set up particularly for young children that were abandoned or disabled. The children range in ages from new born up to 20 years of age. Some are children who have been abandoned at birth, usually by young single mums and some are disabled. The Orphanage does however, also look after children who have needed to be taken from their parents by the Department of Social Welfare.
Arrival Airport: Nadi International Airport.
Project Tasks: Assist the staff in any way possible. Cooking, feeding, playing, getting the children ready for bed-time etc.
Who Can Participate?: IVP/SIVP.Prior experience with children is a necessity and volunteers must be prepared to respect the prayer sessions. All volunteers wanting to participate in this placement are required to submit a police report which clears them for participation in activities with minors.
Placement Costs: AU$75 per week for food and accommodation with a local family
Accommodation: Stay with a family in a western style house and join in their daily life.
Hours of Activity: Volunteers participate in 12 hour shifts.
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
