FJI003 - Forestry
Duration: 2 weeks +
Location: On Cicia Island.
Background Information: Cicia Island is in the Lau group of islands to the east of the main island. It is small and incredibly beautiful, with lovely beaches and rainforest. There are no tourist facilities. There are only a few villages on the island.
Arrival Airport: Nadi International Airport.
Project Tasks: - Preparing areas for replanting
- Packaging seedlings at nurseries
- Transporting seedlings to planting sites
- Planting seedlings according to prescriptions and various other activities.
Who Can Participate?: IVP.
Placement Costs: AU$75 per week for food and accommodation with a local family
Accommodation: Stay with a family in a western style house (with running water but no electricity) and join in their daily life, and that of the village.
Transportation: Flights from Suva go to the island once a week, on a Friday only, and there is usually a boat from Suva once per fortnight. Volunteers will be required to pay extra to travel to the island (approx. AUD$ 300).
Visa Requirements: It is the responsibility of all participants to obtain any necessary visas.
Required Items: Warm clothes for evenings, sleeping bag, hat, sunscreen, towel, mosquito repellent and basic toiletries.
